Domestic Violence

A boy plays air guitar at home dubbed to the sound of a soprano singing.

The first register of this work is simply that of a provocation on an emotive phrase, where a boy energetically and violently acts out playing guitar in a domestic setting. But the music is Van Halen but a distorted rendition of Richard Strauss Four Last Songs, one of the most haunting and beautiful pieces of music in the Western repertoire. The juxtaposition is itself violent. And the degree to which you want to interpret this work is up to you. One way of understanding this work is that of the strange and obsessive worlds that children submerge themselves into as a result of conflict between parents that they cannot understand.
