The Fragility of Beauty
PHOTOGRAPHY · 2000 · MORI GALLERY, SYDNEY
A suite of Cibachrome photographs in which maimed body parts are juxtaposed against images of wilting flowers.
Beauty is transient and fragile. Part of its allure and tension is knowing this. Strongly mediated and colourised, the suite of photographs juxtaposes wilting flowers with body parts that have experienced extreme trauma. Despite their horrific content there is still something beautiful about many of them. The viewer was made to feel the extreme instability of what was beautiful and the collision between the abstract and the material.
