Video Logic

An ambitious collaborative work involving sound, video and sculptural frames dedicated to early twentieth-century experimental modernism and the Bauhaus.
This was a show of five artists that have been foundational as video artists in Australia. I had two works in collaboration with Peter Sculthorpe, but the works here are using the sound works with the electronic sound composer, Thomas Gerwin, with whom I was collaboratively active at the time. The work is hard to represent in static stills because the sound in a generative counterpoint as a pulse and rhythm was essential. The surfaces on which the colours were projected were skewed, a homage to early Bauhaus experiments with sound, performance and theatre. The sound started each day in synch, but, in anticipation of the imperfections in the media, it gradually went out of synch as the day unfolded, the ghost in the machine in a benign way.
