After the Apocalypse
Executed in Iceland, these works draw from its volcanic, lunar landscape, the colours altered to create images that seem taken from another time and place.
After the Rain
A photographic series made in Iceland of landscapes after rain
While on a residency in Iceland it was explained to me that what people enjoyed about the weather were not the sunny days as such but the glimpses of sun between the changes that occurred rapidly within each day. This became quickly evident to me and caused me to reflect on what that does to the temperament when the weather is so changeable. It certainly alerts you to the transience of any state of clemency and it also means that you have to treasure the times that you have. Taken after a spate of rain, these works are like a breath of respite or reprieve, a momentary lapse of calm before the weather sets in to change as it endlessly does. It was clearly an allegory of our moods and states of being from day to day.
